Financing has been put into place for “Hemingway & Fuentes,” starring Anthony Hopkins, Annette Bening and Andy Garcia, with production set to start in January.

Announcement was made Wednesday at Cannes by financier-producer Edward Walson of Sunrider Prods., Andy Garcia and Marina Grasic, CEO and managing partner of Cargo Entertainment, who will handle foreign sales.

Garcia and his CineSon shingle are producing in association with Walson’s Sunrider Prods. Paradigm Motion Picture Finance Group arranged the financing and will rep domestic distribution rights.

Garcia is also directing “Hemingway & Fuentes,” which he co-wrote with Ernest Hemingway’s niece Hilary Hemingway. The film follows the writer while he relives the years he spent in Cuba with his best friend Gregorio Fuentes (played by Garcia) and where he falls in love with an Italian woman who inspired him to write “The Old Man and the Sea” in 1951. Bening plays the role of Hemingway’s fourth wife Mary Welsh Hemingway.

Hopkins is repped by UTA. Bening by CAA and Garcia by Paradigm.
