Financers boarding ‘Every Secret Thing’

Shooting on crime drama to start in February

Merced Media Partners, Palmstar Media Capital and Hyde Park Entertainment have come on board to finance Likely Story’s crime drama “Every Secret Thing,” starring Diane Lane and Elizabeth Banks.

Shooting will start in February with Amy Berg directing from a script by Nicole Holofcenter, adapted from Laura Lippman’s 2004 novel.

Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman is producing with Frances McDormand. Exec producers are Palmstar’s Raj Singh, Stuart Brown, Merced Media’s Kevin Frakes, Hyde Park’s Ashok Amritraj and Stefanie Azpiazu.

Hyde Park will handle international sales at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival.

Variety reported on July 31 that Berg — after directing the documentaries “Deliver Us From Evil” and “West of Memphis” — had been set to make her narrative helming debut with Likely Story’s “Every Secret Thing” with Lane attached and Bregman and McDormand producing.

Story follows two 11-year-old girls who are convicted of murdering a baby and incarcerated until they turn 18. Upon their release, children start to go missing; as the police turn their attention to the duo, the mystery surrounding the original murder takes the fore.

Lane will play the mother of one of the girls, portraying a woman who has long known that her daughter is a gifted liar.

“Great, female-driven crime movies are few and far between — and one this original and surprising is like a gift,” Bregman said

PalmStar’s credits include “Celeste and Jesse Forever” and Bille August’s “Night Train to Lisbon,” starring Jeremy Irons and Melanie Laurent; “Vehicle 19” and “Hours,” both starring Paul Walker; and “Seven Below” with Val Kilmer and Vingh Rhames.

Hyde Park’s “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” was released earlier this year.

Likely Story is producing “Can a Song Save Your Life?” with John Carney directing, an untitled Nicole Holofcener film at Fox Searchlight, and “Foxcatcher,” directed by Bennett Miller. Recent productions include Stephen Frears’ “Lay the Favorite,”  to be released later this year by The Weinstein Co.
