BERLIN , London’s Film4 FrightFest kicks off next month with a slew of gruesome, horror-filled and psychologically disturbing works that include new films by Jennifer Lynch, Scott Derrickson and Ole Bornedal.

FrightFest will unspool 48 films from 11 countries, including 15 world preems.

Among them are Bornedal’s Sam Raimi produced ”The Possession,” starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick; Lynch’s serial killer drama ”Chained,” starring Vincent D’Onofrio and Eamon Farren; and Derrickson’s ”Sinister,” which likewise features D’Onofrio alongside Ethan Hawke.

Paul Hyetts’ directorial debut, the Balkan-set psychological horror pic ”The Seasoning House,” starring Sean Pertwee and Kevin Howarth, opens this year’s showcase, which is celebrating its 13th edition (and thus billed as Film4 FrightFest the 13th).

Other screeners include Jon Wright’s ”Grabbers,” about the alien invasion of an Irish fishing community; Dominic Brunt’s walking dead thriller ”Before Dawn”; and Matthias Hoene’s ”Cockneys vs Zombies,” which the director describes as ”’Evil Dead 2′ meets ‘Withnail and I.”’

Also unspooling are Franck Khalfoun’s ”Maniac,” starring Elijah Wood; Spanish thriller ”Sleep Tight,” by ”[REC]” director Jaume Balaguero; Italian brothers Antonio and Marco Manetti’s ”Paura 3D”; and James Nunn and Ronnie Thompson’s British splatter thriller ”Tower Block,” starring Sheridan Smith and Russell Tovey, which closes the fest.

Film4 FrightFest runs Aug. 23-27 at the Empire Cinema in London’s Leicester Square.
