Demarest to coin, co-produce ‘Wanted Man’

Corbijn's spy thriller stars Hoffman, McAdams

Newly minted Demarest Films has come on board to co-finance and co-produce the spy thriller “A Most Wanted Man” from director Anton Corbijn with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe and Robin Wright starring.

Producers are Gail Egan and Andrea Calderwood under their Potboiler Prods. banner and Stephen and Simon Cornwell from Ink Factory.

Demarest co-founders William D. Johnson and Sam Englebardt will exec produce alongside Tessa Ross of Film4 and John le Carre. FilmNation Entertainment is handling domestic and international sales.

The screenplay was written by Andrew Bovell based on le Carre’s novel.

Story takes place in present-day Hamburg, Germany, where a mysterious half-Chechen, half-Russian man, surfaces in the city’s Islamic community, on the run and desperate for help. He seeks to recover his late Russian father’s fortune and soon connects with a conflicted British private banker and a young female lawyer determined to protect his rights.

Demarest recently partnered with IM Global and Reliance Big Entertainment to co-finance and co-produce espionage thriller “Paranioia,” directed by Robert Luketic, which stars Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, and Amber Heard.

Demarest, which launched in April, produced Neil Jordan’s “Byzantium,” which is premiering Sunday in the Toronto International Film Festival and stars Saoirse Ronan, Gemma Arterton, Jonny Lee Miller and Sam Riley. It’s also produced David Rosenthal’s “A Single Shot,” starring Sam Rockwell, Melissa Leo, and Jeffrey Wright, and “Penthouse North,” which stars Michelle Monaghan and Michael Keaton.
