Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Corporate Strategists

If you’ve already scored big by having the top-grossing film of 2012 (“The Avengers”), chances are you’ll do whatever’s necessary to retain the director behind that hefty $1.5 billion worldwide B.O. haul — and Galluzzi was the one working the deal to keep Joss Whedon in the family for the long-term. Whedon signed on with Marvel to write and direct “Avengers 2” and will exclusively work on the company’s film and TV projects (including series “S.H.I.E.L.D.”) for the next three years. “He’s a great team player and partner, and that’s what struck us,” says Galluzzi. “He knows how to take all of these divergent deals, media and talent and meld them together.” Other deals Galluzzi advised on included securing Scarlett Johansson for “Captain America 2,” a German distribution deal with TMG for “Iron Man 3” and an agreement with BackEast Entertainment to create a traveling Marvel “4-D” show in the U.S., which will feature virtual rides and character appearances.
