Up and running since Friday, Cinando’s download service has distinct advantages, Cannes Market exec director Jerome Paillard said Sunday at the European Film Market.
Faster and cheaper than FedEx, Cinando’s watermarked movie downloads are more secure than screeners.
Buyers still prefer DVDs to streaming: The download system allows industry execs to view on the move, burning DVDs. The service operates year round.
In a few weeks, Cinando will extend the service to iPad files.
The download service will allow producers to send sales agents films before markets while sales agents will be able to get pics to distributors in their wake.
Downloads cost €1.20 ($1.58) a film.
Funded by on-site ad revs, the EU’s Media Progam and Cannes’ Market, online website Cinando already operates a festival and market catch-up movie service. This allows sales agents and producers to upload festival and market films, then authorize their streaming to clients.
Cinando provides this service for Cannes, Karlovy Vary, Toronto, San Sebastian and, among markets, Pusan, the American Film Market and Ventana Sur, creating online showcases for them all.
In all, Cinando offers 2,500 films online.
Cinando is best-known for its highly popular database of companies, executives and movies. Its numbers are still steadily climbing, up to a current 35,000 registered members and 5,000 frequent users, Paillard said.
Cinando’s redesign connects its network members to Facebook and Twitter.
