If the 300-plus buyers expected for December’s Ventana Sur, Latin America’s premiere film mart, are looking for an excuse to stay in Buenos Aires a little bit longer, they now have it.

Ventana Sur runs Nov. 30-Dec. 3. One day later, on Dec. 4, Italy’s Istituto Luce-Cinecitta will organize Italian film screenings at the same Ventana Sur venue: Cinemark’s Puerto Madero eight-plex in Buenos Aires’ chic waterfront district.

About 24 recent Italian films with international sales potential will unspool. Luce-Cinecitta will offer additional accommodations in Buenos Aires to distributors or buyers who want to stay over, said Cinecitta Luce’s Carla Cattani.

Screenings will also include trailers for Italian films ready for delivery in early 2013.

Organized by the Cannes Market and Argentina’s Incaa Film Institute, Ventana Sur will arrange air tickets for guest buyers to take in the Italian screenings.

The one-day Italo film mart builds on a close relationship between film authorities that already operate an Italy-Argentina co-production fund. Showcase also marks a new direction in Cinecitta Luce Italian cinema promotion, said Cinecitta Luce CEO Roberto Cicutto.

“We want to really push the commercial side of promotion, organize less Italian film seasons but improve opportunities for producers to meet foreign distributors, taking films to events where buyers are invited,” Cicutto said.

Move will not affect the presence of Italian films at international film festivals, Cicutto said.
