In a pre-emptive deal announced on the eve of the Cannes Film Festival, CBS Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the action thriller “Ends of the Earth.”

Written and directed by Derek Lee and Clif Prowse, “Earth” follows two best friends on a whirlwind trip around the world. Their journey turns surreal when they encounter an impossible phenomenon that will change one of them forever.

Chris Ferguson and Zach Lipovsky produced with backing by Telefilm Canada. IM Global’s Stuart Ford, Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Alliance’s Charles Layton are exec producers.

CBS Films co-president Wolfgang Hammer and exec VP of acquisitions & co-productions Scott Shooman made the announcement jointly.

IM Global will be handling the sale of international territories at Cannes.

Alliance holds rights to the film in Canada, the U.K. and Spain.

The deal was negotiated by Ford, IM Global’s Jonathan Deckter, Kavanaugh-Jones and Verve, who represent the filmmakers. Jack Bleck and Shooman negotiated for CBS Films.
