Cameron, Reeves join Beijing fest

BEIJING James Cameron, Keanu Reeves and Jeremy Renner are among the guests set to attend the Beijing Film Festival, which opens Monday.

Cameron’s “Titanic 3D” is causing a sensation in China, with its $105.2 million B.O. take far outstripping its $52.8 million domestic total.

Also expected to attend are local and Hong Kong biz figures Andy Lau, Zhang Ziyi, Jiang Wen, Feng Xiaogang, John Woo and Ann Hui.

The fest will feature a forum with senior execs from 20 shingles, both domestic and foreign, including reps from state film group China Film and Huayi Brothers.

A number of U.S. studios have been invited to attend, including Disney and 20th Century Fox, and there will be representatives from Bollywood’s Yash Raj Films and Japan’s Toho Intl.

Others include Blighty’s Working Title, Gaumont from France, Universum Film from Germany and Weta Digital from New Zealand.

Iranian drama “A Separation” is the fest’s opening overseas pic, while “The Artist” will close the fest on Saturday, with “Full Circle” and “Dr Qian Xuesen” the opening and closing Chinese movies.

Helmer Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” will get its Asian bow during the fest.

Altogether 260 movies from more than 50 countries will unspool in cinemas in Beijing, and ticket prices are being cut for the duration of the fest.

The Beijing Screenings of new Chinese titles has been incorporated into the fest.

The centerpiece of the event will be a carnival at the Olympic village, said Pang Wei, deputy director of Beijing’s Municipal Bureau of Radio, Film and Television, and this will showcase film history and technology.
