Berlin film market fully booked

EFM to add space to fit latecomers

BERLIN — The upcoming European Film Market is off to a strong start, with exhibition space at the main Martin Gropius Bau and Marriott Hotel venues in Berlin fully booked.

Due to the high demand, organizers of the Berlinale film mart, which runs Feb. 7-15, even expanded space at the Marriott.

“We are extremely pleased with the interest in our exhibition space increasing even further,” said EFM topper Beki Probst. “It is our goal to respond to the current trends and developments in the global industry and to tailor our offer accordingly.”

In addition to the first major international film bazaar of the year, the EFM will again present a number of industry initiatives and special showcases, including Straight from Sundance, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary next year and has continued to expand its offer in recent years, and the recently introduced American Independents in Berlin, which is organized by the Independent Filmmaker Project and the Sundance Institute and caters to independent U.S. filmmakers.

International experts will discuss current trends in the film and entertainment industry at the EFM Industry Debates, which are taking place for the sixth consecutive year. Variety will again serve as an official partner of the EFM Industry Debates, along with the IFA international consumer electronics trade fair and other international trade publications.

Meet the Docs serves as the main meeting point for the international documentary industry, and also works closely with the festival sections.

Focusing on local productions, the German Cinema — LOLA@Berlinale series offers an exclusive look at the past year in German cinema. EFM participants and international buyers will be able to view films long-listed for German Film Award nominations.
