Emmy Nomination Day is one day away, and as you’ll see in my final preview story, even amid the expected returns of shows like “Mad Men” and “Modern Family” to the finalists’ circle, there’s plenty of potential for turnover.
So get your sleep tonight so that you’ll be ready to take it all in once the announcement comes at 5:35 a.m. Pacific Time on Thursday. We’ll be writing, blogging and tweeting all the noms from the get-go at Variety.com. And then be sure to join all the Variety TV experts for a live chat at 8 a.m.
In the meantime, here’s what else is happening in the awards world …
— The film academy announced the results of its elections to the 2012-13 Board of Governors, with six new officials winning and three others returning after a hiatus. They join the 43-person group that in two weeks will select the successor to Tom Sherak as AMPAS president.
— Brian Lowry takes the words right out of my mouth as he wonders aloud what purpose it serves to make awards nomination announcements while the rooster is still getting some shut-eye.
— The 49th-annual Cinema Audio Society awards will begin taking submissions Oct. 15, beginning a process that will culminate with the Feb. 16 event at the Biltmore.
