The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has unveiled seven finalists for the makeup and hairstyling Oscar, with the official nominees to be unveiled Jan. 10.
The seven are “Hitchcock,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “Les Miserables,” “Lincoln,” “Looper,” “Men in Black 3” and “Snow White and the Huntsman.”
On Jan. 5, all members of the Acad’s makeup artists and hairstylists branch are invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.
Among the contenders that didn’t make the list are “Cloud Atlas,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Prometheus” and “Skyfall.”
The trophy for makeup will be part of the presentations at the Oscar ceremony Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland.
