Netflix nabs Gallic cop drama ‘Spiral’

French-lingo series to run with subtitles on Netcaster

PARIS

Netflix has acquired gritty Gallic crime drama “Spiral.”

Produced by Paris-based Son et Lumiere and repped by Newen Distribution, “Spiral” bowed on Canal Plus in 2005 and has been a ratings hit. The show’s fourth season premieres in September.

The police drama centers on the tumultuous life of a femme captain and her two lieutenants, as well as judge, a prosecutor and a lawyer. Show follows the characters as they investigate murder cases and unveil corruption at the highest levels of the judicial system.

The Netflix deal, which is non-exclusive, covers all four seasons. The show will run in French with English subtitles.

BBC Worldwide Prods. has acquired “Spiral’s” U.S. remake rights, with Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Prods. on board to develop and Meredith Stiehm (“Cold Case”) tapped to pen.

On top of being a local ratings success, “Spiral” has been licensed to 72 foreign networks, including free-to-air channels and pay TV nets.
