VP Debate: 51.8 Million, Down from 2008

The debate between Joseph Biden and Paul Ryan drew 51.8 million viewers, down 18 million from Biden's faceoff with Sarah Palin in 2008.

Taking the 2008 event out of the equation, Nielsen said that the Biden-Ryan debate drew the most viewers since George Bush's debate against Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, which drew 56.7 million.

The biggest segment of the audience were viewers over 55: 26.7 million, or more than half of the audience.
