CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Scarlett Johansson and Kerry Washington, longtime supporters of President Obama, will speak to the Democratic National Convention tonight.

The actresses, expected to make a pitch to reach younger voters, will speak during the 7 p.m. ET hour. Eva Longoria, a national campaign co-chair, will speak during the 8 p.m. hour, following former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Performers on the bill tonight include James Taylor (pictured practicing earlier today), Marc Anthony (singing the National Anthem), the Foo Fighters and Mary J. Blige.

Perhaps the most surprising speaker on the bill is Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York. He has sparred with President Obama over healthcare mandates for contraception coverage. But he also drew criticism last week when he delivered the benediction on the final night of the Republican convention.

Hours before the convention was to begin, crowds started filling the Time Warner Cable Arena, worried about getting in after Charlotte fire officials closed it off about 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
