Romney Skips Nickelodeon Special

After Democrats slammed Mitt Romney with Big Bird, is Nick next?

According to the AP, the Romney campaign is not taking part in Nickelodeon’s “Kids Pick the President: The Candidates” special, citing scheduling, according to the show’s host Linda Ellerbee. President Obama is participating.

Ellerbee’s statement to the AP was biting: “That’s several million kids who actually want to get involved in the
democratic process. They don’t deserve to be dissed.
But former Gov. Romney also blew off Letterman and Big Bird, so I guess
we’re in good company.”

Only one other candidate has declined: John Kerry in 2004, something that prompted President George W. Bush to withdraw.

The Obama campaign is also tying the Romney refusal to his pledged cuts to PBS, and said that he has decided to play “hooky.”
