On a fund-raising jaunt in Manhattan this evening, President Obama raised money at the Upper East Side home of director Spike Lee, who has been sometimes critical of the administration.
Lee’s wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, even noted as much, but according to a pool report, she quipped of Obama, “I’m sure he doesn’t like all of Spike’s movies.”
Obama noted that his “first official date” with his wife Michelle was to see “Do the Right Thing.”
“Good thing you didn’t see ‘Driving Miss Daisy,” Lee responded.
“I was showing my sophistication in selecting this independent filmmaker, and she was impressed,” Obama said, adding to Lee, “I think you helped me out that day.”
Obama said of his reelection, “I am absolutely confident we are going to win this thing.”
Also at the event were Mariah Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon.
