Iowa filmmakers Paul Benedict and Scott Siepker are getting some traction for their video called “Iowa Nice,” which challenges this year’s perception of the state as filled with right-wing reactionaries in random small towns. Instead, they point out the state’s propensity for going blue in the general election, not to mention that a large share of the state’s population actually are cosmopolitan (4 of 5 live in cities), not country bumpkins.
“Did your state legalize gay marriage before us? Probably not,” he says, before also defending the state’s farmers and their feat of feeding the rest of the country.
Perhaps the most urbane thing about the video is in the opening lines: Watch out, there’s an expletive.
