TV Preview: Syfy’s ‘Face Off’ Left Me Speechless

Although I sat down to watch “Face Off” — a new Syfy channel series — with every intention of writing a full review of it, all I could come up with to say about this latest reality-competition show was this: “Project Runway” Meets Special Effects Makeup. Next!

This was truly a case where the package the DVD came in was more interesting and original than the show itself. Still, since I did invest the 40-some-odd minutes to watch it, I will note that the series premieres Jan. 26 and features makeup artists Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill and Patrick Tatopoulos as judges, with actress McKenzie Westmore — whose father, Michael, was a makeup artist on the original “Star Trek” — as host.

That said, even by Syfy’s modest standards, I can’t envision this living long, or prospering.
