‘Walking Dead’ big overseas

Viewership in Spain broke records

“The Walking Dead,” which set ratings records when it kicked off its second season on AMC earlier this month, is shattering marks abroad as well. “Dead” viewership on Fox International channels broke records in Spain and quintupled the first-season viewership average in Mexico. The show’s o’seas distrib is EOne.

Overall, the series’ second-season preem pulled in some 10 million viewers in 122 countries over the rollout period for the episode, which ran from Oct. 17 to 23, with an average of a 2 rating across the metered markets.

The cream of the grisly crop may be Spain: Kantar reports that the Oct. 17 Spanish preem of the undead-centric series attracted 432,000 pairs of delicious eyeballs, with the vast majority — 316,000 — in the 18-49 demo. The show gave the 10-year-old Fox Spain its highest demo numbers ever and pulled in nearly five times the average of the show’s rookie season.

On FX in the United Kingdom, the series was the No. 2 show of the evening on pay TV in the 18-49 demo; overall, 693,000 viewers tuned in, with 439,000 of them adults under 50. The series came in first in the demo on Fox in Columbia with 269,950 total viewers and 92,240 in 18-49.

Auditel/AGB reports that the Italian preem of the gory drama’s second season on Fox pulled in 200,000 total viewers, becoming the highest-rated show in the demo all year for the network, and putting it at No. 2 across all pay TV for the evening.

In Mexico (also on Fox), the series raked in 296,000 viewers, with 157,430 in the 18-49 demo, quintupling viewers from last season. The series garnered a 2.8 rating and nabbed the top spot in the demo for the evening.
