Time Warner Cable named David Rone prexy of TWC Sports, with the goal of enhancing the company’s position as a sports content provider.

Rone will work directly on relationships with leagues, teams and others in the sports industry, as well as oversee existing and new sports channels including the English and Spanish regional sports nets featuring the L.A. Lakers starting in 2012-13.

In addition to a piece of SNY (SportsNet New York), TWC has nine local sports channels, including two each in central New York and Kansas City.

A former co-head of CAA Sports, Rone comes from Evolution Media Capital (in partnership with CAA), where he provided analysis and negotiated media rights for pro and college leagues and teams. He’s also a past EVP of Fox Sports Networks and g.m. of Fox College Sports.

Rone began his career as a corporate attorney and ultimately spent nine years at Disney.
