Starz orders more ‘Spartacus’

Newest season will begin production early next year

Starz has no intentions of slowing down its “Spartacus” franchise.

Pay cabler has ordered a new but as-yet-untitled “Spartacus” season. Production will begin in New Zealand early next year.

The original “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” premiered in January 2010. The second season was a six-episode prequel, “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena,” which debuted early this year. Season three — titled “Spartacus: Vengeance” — is set to debut Jan. 27.

Andy Whitfield toplined “Blood and Sand,” but the actor died in September of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Liam McIntyre assumes the title role of Spartacus in “Vengeance.”

Starz is currently airing its original series “Boss,” starring Kelsey Grammer as a manipulating Chicago mayor. Ratings have been disappointing.
