After months of negotiations, Time Warner Cable and Sinclair Broadcast Group have reached an agreement in principle for a retransmission consent deal covering 28 stations in such mid-size markets as Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Dayton and Columbus, Ohio.

Time Warner Cable said in a statement Saturday that it expects to finalize the details of the pact over the next week. The rhetoric between the sides heated up last month as the New Year’s Eve expiration of the previous agreeemetn approached. At the last minute, the sides agreed to a two-week extension on Dec. 31.

“We’re pleased to reach an agreement with Sinclair Broadcasting without any interruption in service for our customers,” said Rob Marcus, prexy and chief operating officer of Time Warner Cable.”We appreciate our customers’ patience and support throughout this negotiation, and thank them for their patronage.”

The Sinclair stations involved include Fox, ABC, CW and MyNetwork affiliates, as well as the NBC affil in Tallahassee, Fla.
