‘Simpsons’ vet sells comedy script to Fox

Matt Warburton to produce with Chernin shingle

Two of the busiest pod production outfits have set up still more projects for the 2012 pilot season.

Chernin Entertainment, based at 20th Century Fox TV, has set up a comedy script plus penalty at Fox for “Number One Fan,” from “The Simpsons” writer-producer Matt Warburton.

ABC Studios-based Mark Gordon Co. has sold an adaptation of Candace Bushnell’s “One Fifth Avenue” book as a drama to ABC, to be penned by “Gossip Girl” exec producer Josh Safran.

“Number One Fan” concerns a recent Los Angeles transplant, just on the verge of being “cool” for the first time in his life, who is bummed and mildly amused when his conservative Midwestern parents move in down the street. Warburton, repped by WME, will write and also exec produce along with Peter Chernin and Chernin TV topper Katherine Pope.

Into its second year of a pod deal at 20th TV, Chernin Entertainment has as many as seven scripts in development, with five alone at Fox including projects with Demetri Martin, Stephen Gaghan and Jim Uhls.

Gordon Co.’s “One Fifth” revolves around a columnist who begins investigating the scandal that erupts among residents in her building after she moves back to her old apartment following a breakup. It’s billed as “Sex and the City” meets “The Good Wife.” Safran, repped by UTA, will exec produce with Gordon and Bushnell.Gordon Co. has more than a half-dozen comedy and drama projects spread among ABC, USA, TNT and Showtime.
