CBS soap “The Bold and the Beautiful” won four Daytime Emmys to lead all programs in the ceremony Sunday at the Las Vegas Hilton.
PBS was the overall Daytime Emmy champ with 14 total awards, all of which — including eight for “Sesame Street” — came during Friday’s presentation of craft and other categories. Boosted by eight overall awards for “General Hospital,” ABC was next with 13 total awards (10 on Friday), followed by CBS with 12 overall (five on Friday).
“Bold” was named top drama and shared the award for directing with Eye-mate “The Young and the Restless,” the latter also winning for writing. Laura Wright (“General Hospital”) was tapped for lead actress and Michael Park (CBS’ “As the World Turns”) for lead actor.
Supporting thesp trophies went to Heather Tom (“Bold”) and Jonathan Jackson (“General Hospital”). Honors for younger actor and actress found their way to Scott Clifton (“Bold”) and Brittany Allen (ABC’s “All My Children”).
Syndicated gameshows “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” (whose hosts, Alex Trebek and Pat Sajak, shared Lifetime Achievement award honors) earned top gameshow, with the top host prize going to Ben Bailey of Discovery’s “Cash Cab.”
The top entertainment talkshow prize went to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (which also won for special class writing), with “The Dr. Oz Show” winning for top informative talkshow. Host Dr. Mehmet Oz shared individual honors with Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin of “Live with Regis and Kelly.”
Nickelodeon won 11 Daytime Emmys, including children’s animated program for “The Penguins of Madagascar.” PBS’ awards haul included top children’s series with “The Electric Company” and preschool series with “Sesame Street.”
NBC’s four Daytime Emmys included “The Today Show” winning for morning program. Martha Stewart (Hallmark) won two awards, for lifestyle program and lifestyle/culinary host.
