OWN to show Shadyac’s “I Am”

Oprah Winfrey interview with helmer will air pre-screening

Marking the network’s first high-profile docu acquisition, Tom Shadyac’s philosophical exploration “I Am” will preem on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN on New Year’s Day, as the joint venture of Discovery Communications and Harpo Prods. celebrates its first anni.

Pic, from “Bruce Almighty” helmer Shadyac, features interviews with thinkers including Noam Chomsky, Desmond Tutu and Howard Zinn.

The film will air on OWN following Winfrey’s interview of Shadyac in which the filmmaker will discuss the painful bicycle accident that caused him to begin questioning his lifestyle. The specials are part of OWN’s “Super Soul Sunday” programming block.

“I Am” bows on DVD on Jan. 3, distribbed by Gaiam.
