Oliver Stone, Virgin behind FX drama

Adam Gibgot penning script about org that plants fake news stories

FX has finalized a deal with Richard Branson’s Virgin Produced shingle for an hourlong drama, with Oliver Stone onboard to direct.

Stone, taking on his first episodic project in nearly 20 years, will also produce the pilot with Adam Gibgot, who is writing.

The untitled drama centers on a secret group called Darkhorses, who manufacture fake news stories to serve the agendas of powerful clients, and is said to be based on a real-life practitioner.

“Our sole goal at Virgin Produced is to create unique programming that is wholly indicative of the Virgin brand,” said Virgin Produced head of scripted television Michael Forman. “Darkhorse speaks to this by exposing a very real world that few know actually exists. The episodes will expose some of the urban myths of news stories that engaged us and/or impacted our lives.”

Virgin Produced is headed by CEO Jason Felts and chief creative officer Justin Berfield.
