National Public Radio executive editor Dick Meyer has been named exec producer of BBC News America.

Effective in February, Meyer will have editorial oversight over the nightly “BBC World News America” as well as the Stateside edition of the BBC news website. From his Washington, D.C., base, Meyer will also work with London’s BBC News headquarters to coordinate coverage of U.S. news for U.K. auds.

“His considerable multiplatform experience and understanding of the North American news media landscape will help us … further strengthen the profile and presence of BBC News for American TV, digital and radio audiences,” BBC Newsroom head Mary Hockaday said.

Meyer had worked for NPR since 2008 and the following year took charge of managing NPR’s worldwide news operation on-air and online. Previously, Meyer was editorial director of CBSNews.com and was a producer for “The CBS Evening News With Dan Rather,” with a focus on political and investigative reporting.
