Big Beach and the Duplass brothers have come onboard to produce time-travel comedy “Safety Not Guaranteed,” starring Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass and Jake Johnson.
Colin Trevorrow is making his directorial debut, helming from an original script by writing partner Derek Connolly. Kristen Bell, Jenica Bergere, Jeff Garlin, Karan Soni, Lynn Shelton, and Mary Lynn Rajskub also star in “Safety,” which began shooting in Seattle on April 30.
Story’s based on a real ad placed in Backwoods Home Magazine, and centers on a trio of magazine employees sent to investigate a classified ad seeking a partner for time travel.A cynical aspiring journalist poses as a candidate to accompany a paranoid but compelling loner, but her motivations become confused when she develops feelings for him and begins to wonder whether he is really building a time machine.
Stephanie Langhoff will produce for the Duplass brothers. John Hodges and Michael Clark will supervise the production on behalf of Big Beach.
ICM packaged the movie and is co-repping the domestic sale with Cinetic.
