NATPE reels in big numbers

Annual confab's move to Miami ups attendance

The numbers are in: NATPE 2011 in Miami got a major attendance boost over last year in Vegas, with registered attendees at 4,504 (up 22% over 2010), registered buyers at 702 (up a whopping 94%) and registered individual stations, group, or station owners and reps at 285 (up 71%).

“We are very pleased to see a substantial growth in the number of people here at NATPE Miami,” said NATPE prexy and CEO Rick Feldman. “The general buzz of people doing business throughout the resort – from the lobby, to the suites to the cabanas overlooking the ocean – has been very gratifying.”

Org inked a two-year deal to hold its annual confab in the sunshine state this year and in 2012. Attendees spoke highly of the decision to relocate, especially foreign content providers from Europe and Latin America in search of distribution on the several Latin-branded versions of U.S. nets like HBO, Nickelodeon and MTV – all of which are headquartered in Miami, as is major Spanish-language broadcaster Univision.
