‘Mildred Pierce’ draws 1.3 million viewers

HBO says aud total in line with expectations

HBO’s five-part miniseries “Mildred Pierce” opened to 1.3 million viewers Sunday, a figure the pay cabler said was in line with expectations.

Of the most recent HBO minis, the first-night “Mildred” perf would rate third behind the openers of 2010’s “The Pacific” (3.1 million) and 2008’s “John Adams” (1.8 million).

A pair of other 2008 minis fared behind “Mildred”: “Generation Kill,” which drew 1 million, and “House of Saddam,” which scored 900,000 viewers.

Of the 1.3 million “Mildred Pierce” viewers, 63% were female. Also, 94% of the audience stayed for the second hour, which began at 10 p.m.

HBO will air part three of “Mildred Pierce” Sunday and episodes four and five April 10. That’s a week before the net preems its highly touted fantasy “Game of Thrones” April 17.

Mini also stars Guy Pearce, Evan Rachel Wood, Melissa Leo and Brian O’Byrne. Todd Haynes, Pamela Koffler, Christine Vachon and John Wells are exec producers.
