EXCLUSIVE: Mark Burnett is on track to be exec producer of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.

Sources said the prolific producer of “Survivor,” “The Voice” and “Celebrity Apprentice” has been recruited to shepherd the 63rd annual Emmycast, set for Sept. 18 on Fox.

The choice of Burnett is in keeping with the Academy of Television Arts & Science’s efforts to breathe new life into the three-hour kudocast by casting a wider net for producers and on-air talent.

Burnett has plenty of awards show experience, having exec produced multiple editions of the MTV Movie Awards and People’s Choice Awards. He recently inked a wide-ranging production partnership with Hearst Corp. (Daily Variety, April 12).

Word that Burnett is to sign on for this year’s Emmycast comes as the TV Acad is poised to finalize a new eight-year contract that will keep the kudocast rotating among the Big Four networks.

A rep for ATAS declined comment on Burnett. Burnett could not immediately be reached for comment.
