Maria Bello to star in NBC’s ‘Prime Suspect’

Actress set as lead in U.S. adaptation of Helen Mirren series

Maria Bello is set to be cast as the lead detective in NBC’s Stateside edition of British import “Prime Suspect.”

Pilot, from writer Alexandra Cunningham, will have Bello portray the role that was originated by Helen Mirren. In the Peacock’s interpretation, Bello will play a detective in a tough New York precinct dominated by men.

Show is from Universal Media Studios. Cunninghan will exec produce with Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey, the duo behind NBC’s “Friday Night Lights.” Berg will also direct the pilot.
