Stonestreet joins Peters, Oliver in Montreal fest lineup

MONTREAL — The line-up for the 29th edition of the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival will include Russell Peters, Eric Stonestreet from “Modern Family” and John Oliver from “The Daily Show.” The programming for the Montreal yuk fest was announced at a press conference Tuesday. This year’s edition runs July 11-31.

Peters will host a Just for Laughs Gala at Place des Arts, while Stonestreet will host “Modern Love: The Relationships Show.”

The Just for Laughs Galas, the fest’s marquee shows, will move from the St. Denis Theater in the city’s Latin Quarter to Place des Arts right downtown. In addition, the English-language programming of this bilingual festival will be extended from its usual one-week run to a run throughout the festival.

Oliver will host “Decline of the American Empire?,” a night of political comedy, while Craig Ferguson will headline “Craig Ferguson’s International House of Comedy.”

In addition, Louis CK will return to accept the Comedy Person of the Year Award; Eddie Izzard will perform three intimate shows at the Gesu Theater; Danny Bhoy will perform his one-man-show “Wanderlust”; and Jimmy Carr will be in with his solo show “Laughter Therapy.”

Broadway hit “Colin Quinn: Long Story Short” is on the Just for Laughs bill as well, as is “SModcast” with Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier and “Kenny Hotz’s Triumph of the Will.”

Returning events include “The Nasty Show” with Jeffrey Ross from the “Comedy Central Roasts,” the “Ethnic Show” with host Maz Jobrani and “The Bar Mitzvah Show.”
