ITV Studios has named “Wallander” exec producer Francis Hopkinson to establish and become creative director of its new drama division, effective in September.

Hopkinson is exec producer of Left Bank Pictures and previously was commissioning editor for drama at Channel 4. Other stints have included World Prods. and Granada Prods. “Wallander,” starring Kenneth Branagh, won a 2009 BAFTA award for drama.

“Francis is one of the most talented drama producers working in the industry today,” ITV Studios managing director Kevin Lygo said. “He has an eye for ideas which resonate with large audiences along with impressive relationships with talent on and off screen.

“Drama is a hugely important area for ITV Studios, and with Francis joining our team we are in a very good position to build on our already strong slate to produce more scripted content for U.K. and international broadcasters.”
