As part of their new joint venture, European broadcasting giant RTL Group and India’s Reliance Broadcast Network are launching two English-language channels, one focused on reality formats, the other on action content targeted at male viewers.

The two media congloms announced plans for the joint venture in March and on Monday (May 30) officially inked the agreement for the equally owned enterprise that will operate the channels.

The deal — RTL’s first broadcasting venture in Asia — provides an added bonus for RTL’s production arm FremantleMedia, which will be the primary supplier of content for the reality outlet.

“RTL Group believes strongly in the Indian market — a market with a young population that loves TV and impressive potential for further growth,” said Andreas Rudas, RTL’s executive VP of Regional Operations & Business Development for Central and Eastern Europe.

Reliance CEO Tarun Katial added that RTL’s extensive library and lineage perfectly complements the partnership.
