FX eyes Chandler for ‘Powers’

'Friday Night Lights' star considers supernatural drama

FX is courting Kyle Chandler for the lead role in its drama pilot “Powers.”

The “Friday Night Lights” star had a meeting with the cabler’s execs recently and is considering the role. Thesp was heavily sought after by broadcasters during pilot season and is likely to be fielding numerous other offers. Sources emphasize that Chandler had made no commitment to “Powers” beyond the initial meeting.

Script was written by Charles “Chic” Eglee, and Michael Dinner directed the pilot.

Sony Pictures Television is producing while Circle of Confusion is the shingle behind “Powers.” Dinner and Eglee are set to exec produce.

Chandler is coming off a five-season run as Coach Eric Taylor in “Friday Night Lights,” which is set to conclude on NBC this spring. The Peacock, which was on the brink of canceling the show after season two, shared production costs with DirecTV to allow the show to continue.

He’s set to co-star in Paramount’s “Super 8,” from writer-director J.J. Abrams. Pic is due in theaters June 10.

If Chandler lands the role, that would mean both he and “Friday Night Lights” co-star Connie Britton would be at FX. She is toplining the pilot “The American Horror Story” from “Glee” exec producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.
