FX acquires ‘Hangover 2’

Cabler set to air B.O. smash in late 2013

FX has picked up the basic cable rights to Warner Bros.’ boffo sequel “The Hangover 2.”

Pic, which earned $137 million in its first five days of release, isn’t expected on the net until late 2013. TV premiere dates are set following the debuts on the homevideo calendar.

FX, as part of its deal with Marvel and DreamWorks Animation, also has “Thor” and “Captain America” on its upcoming slate, as well as toons “Kung Fu Panda 2” and “Puss in Boots,” due on the bigscreen in November.

Deal between FX and Warner Bros. is standard in that pricetag will be 10%-12% of the domestic box office take, but because of huge grosses of the film, pact might come with a cap.

“Iron Man” has been the top-rated theatrical this year for FX, which is 18% ahead in total viewers and 16% ahead in the 18-49 demo in year-to-year comparisons. Net is coming off the second-season run of “Justified” and has performed well with offnet laffer “Two and a Half Men.”
