Director of seminal bigscreen genre pics “Blade Runner” and “Alien” is moving to the Science Channel to produce “Prophets of Science Fiction.”

Discovery cabler has greenlit eight episodes of the skein that will profile outstanding sci-fi minds throughout history, including Isaac Asimov, “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry and “Star Wars” director George Lucas. Their groundbreaking work will be dissected by what it meant at the time and how their work affected future breakthroughs.

“Prophets” is set to debut in the second half of 2011.

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Science Channel on this exciting new series,” said Scott. “I hope that the audience will find the subjects as interesting and inspiring as I do.”

Scott is no stranger to television. He’s exec producer of CBS drama “The Good Wife” and recent Starz miniseries “The Pillars of the Earth.” His most recent bigscreen pic was last year’s Russell Crowe starrer “Robin Hood.”

“Science is sparked by creativity, and the remarkable individuals we cover in this series actually inspired future generations of scientists,” said Science Channel exec VP-g.m. Debbie Myers.
