Disney Channel greenlights ‘Zombies’ pilot

Kid cabler also readies second season of 'Fish'

Disney Channel has greenlit a pilot for musical program “Zombies and Cheerleaders,” with an eye toward a 2012 premiere if the cabler orders it to series.

Eric Weinberg (“Scrubs”) is exec producing the project, written by co- exec producers Joseph Raso and David Light. Todd Strauss Schulson will direct.

Zombies” tells the tale ofZed Necrodopolis, a high-school student who happens to be a zombie but is desirous of ingratiating himself with the popular cheerleading clique.

Kid cabler has also made official a second season of animated series “Fish Hooks,” with a premiere date of Nov. 4.

In its freshman year, “Fish Hooks” became TV’s No. 2 animated series in the 6-11 and 9-14 demos, behind the cabler’s “Phineas & Ferb.”

Felicia Day, Wallace Shawn and Doug Brochu will be among the guests to appear on season two of the show, created by Noah Z. Jones, who exec produces with Maxwell Atoms. Disney TV Animation produces.

Kyle Massey, Justin Roiland and Chelsea Kane are the lead characters, with Rachel Dratch, Jerry Stiller, Atticus Shaffer, Jennifer Coolidge, Richard Simons, Dana Snyder, Alex Hirsch (who helped develop the series), John DiMaggio, Edie McClurg, Tiny Lister and Kari Wahlgren among the supporting and recurring voices.
