D Street Media enters Brazil

It takes North American rights to 'Motor anjos'

New York’s D Street Media is entering Brazil.

In a first move, described as a pilot program by DSM CEO Dexter Davis, D Street Releasing has acquired North American rights to “Motor anjos” (Motor Angels), Joe Tripician’s feature directorial debut.

DSM will co-produce the gritty, romantic, action-thriller with Sao Paulo-based Iconomia, headed by Gilson Schwartz, a professor at Sao Paulo U. Davis will serve as exec producer to ensure it is “North American friendly,” Davis said.

Skedded to shoot in Sao Paulo next winter, “Motor anjos” turns on a motorbike messenger who risks his life confronting a local criminal gang.

Taina Muller, star of TV Globo telenovela “Insensato coracao,” will co-star.

“Brazil’s box office is blooming, the middle class is blooming. There are a lot of opportunities for local productions to do well locally,” Davis said.

He added that the country is “stepping up in terms of supporting local production and distribution abroad. That’s obviously very exciting for us as well.”
