Longtime play-by-play announcer Marv Albert will join CBS’ NFL coverage this fall.
“Marv Albert is recognized throughout sports broadcasting as one of its true legends,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus said. “Very few in the broadcasting industry can claim his combined accomplishments and remarkable longevity. We are extremely excited to add Marv.”
Albert might be best known to mainstream audiences for his NBA work, though the door to CBS opened to him via his work on the combined Eye-TNT coverage of this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Albert, who received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997, will continue to be TNT’s Thursday NBA announcer.
As far as football goes, Albert did games for years at NBC as well as play-by-play for Westwood One Radio’s “Monday Night Football” coverage from 2002-2009.
Albert’s NFL duties, of course, will depend on whether league owners and players can settle their ongoing labor dispute.
