Bouran joins Sky News Arabia

Middle Eastern channel begins recruitment drive

LONDON — Sky News Arabia, due to bow spring 2012, has tapped Middle East news veteran Nart Bouran as its first director of news.

Bouran, latterly director of television for Reuters, will have overall responsibility for the web, which will be launching into a highly competitive market.

During the past 20 years, Bouran has worked in the Middle East covering stories in Iraq, Algeria, Libya and Yemen. His career includes stints as director general of the Jordan Radio and Television Corp., and director of news for Abu Dhabi TV, where he oversaw coverage of the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Sky, whose U.K. news web Sky News is highly regarded, said that Bouran’s appointment is the first in a series for Sky News Arabia. The new channel is a joint venture between Sky News in the U.K. and ADMIC in the UAE.
