Bettag tapped for ‘Brian Williams’

Segment producer joins from CNN

NBC News has tapped CNN vet Tom Bettag as segment producer on “Rock Center With Brian Williams,” which is set to debut Monday at 10 p.m., replacing the Peacock’s short-lived drama “The Playboy Club.”

The division has pulled together the show quickly over the last few months, bringing in BBC America’s Rome Hartman as exec producer and Ted Koppel as a contributor, and NBC News talent including Kate Snow, Harry Smith and Richard Engel. Bettag comes from “State of the Union With Candy Crowley” and “Reliable Sources” at the Turner news cabler, and brings with him an impressive trophy wall. The producer has earned six duPont-Columbia University Silver Batons, three Overseas Press Club awards, Quinnipiac U.’s Fred Friendly Award and and 30 Emmys.

The hourlong “Rock Center,” to be broadcast live from studio 3B in Rockefeller Center, will be available in various digital editions at RockCenterNBC.com and via digital apps.

NBC also announced details of the first episode: Snow will investigate an underground immigration industry in which Chinese women pay to come to America in order to give birth and gain citizenship for their kids; Engel will report on anti-government activism in Syria; and Smith will report on an employment trend.
