ABC is revving up for pilot season with orders for comedy projects “Man Up” and “Smothered.”
“Man Up” hails from ABC Studios and scribe Chris Moynihan. Single-camera project focuses on “what it takes to survive as a modern man,” as seen through the eyes of his three best friends and the women in their lives. Moynihan will write the script and exec produce with Ron West and Kelly Kulchak of Tagline Entertainment. That trio was behind the ensemble comedy “100 Questions” that struggled at NBC last season.
“Smothered” comes from Warner Bros. TV and “Friends” alums Andrew Reich and Ted Cohen. Project revolves around a young couple who finds themselves smothered by their two very different sets of parents whose only thing in common is that their children are married to each other.
ABC execs are set to meet the press at the Television Critics Assn. tour today.
