ABC News appoints trio of execs

Fedida, Mercandetti and Ruffolo join division

ABC News topper Ben Sherwood has appointed three new execs to the division’s senior leadership team. Two of the hires are ABC News alums: Barbara Fedida is returning to the Alphabet from CBS to serve as senior v.p. of talent and business; and Susan Mercandetti worked as an exec editor at Random House after more than 10 years on “Nightline” and “Good Morning America.” Mercandetti will serve as V.P. of business development.

Mercandetti’s position is new; Fedida steps in for Amy Entelis, who is headed to Sucherman Consulting.

Sherwood has also recruited AOL’s head of current programming, Joe Ruffolo, to head ABC News digital as senior V.P. Ruffolo will fill the spot vacated by Paul Slavin, who left the company this past Friday.
