ABC Family picks up three new series

Cabler orders two dramas and Raven-Symone laffer

ABC Family has picked up two dramas and a laffer starring Raven-Symone.

The three series are set to bow later this year. ABC Family has been on a roll with its originals, highlighted by last year’s frosh hit “Pretty Little Liars.” The cabler’s growth spurt has been one of Disney’s biggest success stories in the past year.

ABC Family prexy Michael Riley said the cabler aims to offer its viewers “a rich and diverse mix of authentic, optimistic and heartfelt programming,”

Drama “Switched at Birth” revolves around two teenage girls from very different backgrounds who realize they were switched as newborns in the hospital. Series is exec produced by Lizzy Weiss, Paul Stupin and John Ziffren. Katie Leclerc and Vanessa Marano play the leads.

“The Nine Lives of Chloe King” centers on a girl who begins to develop supernatural powers, and then discovers she’s part of an ancient race that has been hunted by human assassins for millennia, and that she may be their only hope for survival. It’s based on the Alloy book series of the same name by Celia Thomson. Ziffren, Dan Berendsen, Gina Girolamo and Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein are exec producers. Skyler Samuels plays the title character.

“The Great State of Georgia” stars Raven-Symone as an aspiring actress with a geeky best friend trying to make it New York City. The ABC Studios skein is exec produced by Kirk J. Rudell and Jennifer Weiner.
