Here’s quite an unusual cross-over: ABC Daytime and TV Land, which have no corporate ties, have nonetheless worked out a crossover event between cabler sitcom “Hot in Cleveland” and Alphabet sudser “All My Children.”
Network/cable crossovers are rare, as are crossovers between networks, period. But the two entites found a way to make it work, based on an already established “Hot in Cleveland” storyline.
On the show, Wendie Malick’s character, Victoria Chase, has a nemesis: “All My Children’s” Susan Lucci. Now, “All My Children” stars Susan Lucci, Michael E. Knight and Darnell Williams will play themselves on a two-part “Hot in Cleveland” (airing on TV Land on Feb. 16 and 23), while Malick will complete the storyline by appearing, in character as Victoria Chase on “All My Children’s” Feb. 24 episode. Malick, as Chase, will play “Gertie, a housekeeper who ends up moonlighting as a bartender at Confusion after Erica Kane fires her.”
“This is a unique opportunity to raise awareness of both shows with similar demos, and we expect each other’s viewers to follow from one show to the next,” said Disney/ABC Television Group daytime topper Brian Frons.
Added TV Land prexy Larry Jones: ““We’re so excited to partner with ‘All My Children’ to bring to life this classic TV form when television worlds collide.”
