2-hour ‘Bachelorette’ show scores for ABC

'MasterChef' cooks up strong numbers for Fox

A new two-hour episode of ABC’s ”The Bachelorette” led all primetime programs in viewers Monday and lifted ABC to a victory for the night.

Bachelorette” (2.5 rating/7 share with adults 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall) was tops in all four halfhours from 8-10 p.m., according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, and challenged only by a fresh episode of Fox’s ”MasterChef” (2.2/6, 5.0 million) at 9 p.m.

ABC also topped the networks at 10 p.m. with ”Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition” (1.9/5, 5.5 million), which outdrew CBS’ ”Hawaii Five-0” (1.0/3, 4.8 million) and the nearly forgotten series finale of NBC’s ”Law and Order: Los Angeles” (1.0/3, 4.6 million).

NBC’s best performer Monday was ”America’s Got Talent” (1.5/5, 6.2 million), which finished second at 8 p.m. The Peacock dipped at 9 p.m. with ”Law and Order: Criminal Intent” (0.8/2, 4.0 million).

CBS and Fox were nearly tied in the night’s first hour, with the Eye airing sitcoms ”How I Met Your Mother” (1.2/4, 3.9 million) and ”Mike and Molly” (1.2/4, 4.4 million) against a repeat of ”MasterChef” (1.2/4, 3.0 million. CBS followed at 9 p.m. with ”Two and a Half Men” (1.5/4, 5.7 million) and another ”Mike and Molly” (1.3/3, 5.4 million).

The CW offered repeats of ”90210” (0.3/1, 0.8 million) and ”Gossip Girl” (0.2/1, 0.5 million).

Competition from cable included ESPN’s coverage of baseball’s ”Home Run Derby” and TNT’s season premieres of ”The Closer” (in its final season) and ”Rizzoli and Isles.”

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC 2.3/7, Fox 1.7/5, CBS 1.2/3, NBC 1.1/3, CW 0.3/1.

In total viewers: ABC 7.1 million, NBC 4.9 million, CBS 4.8 million, Fox 4.0 million, CW 0.7 million.
