Patricia Shevlin has been named exec producer of “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley.”
The appointment is effective June 6, Pelley’s first day as anchor on the broadcast. Current producer Rick Kaplan’s final day on the show is Thursday; news of his departure broke Tuesday.
The net has also named Batt Humphreys interim producer of CBS’s “Early Show,” where he will work with that program’s senior broadcast producer Tom Mazzarelli. “Early Show” e.p., David Friedman, ankled the show on Monday.
Shevlin has produced “Evening News” on weekends for for more than 11 years. She joined the division in 1973 and has held a variety of positions. Humphreys, who left the business in 2007, has logged more than 15 years as morning producer.
The appointments are in keeping with “60 Minutes” vet Pelley’s own promotion – division topper David Rhodes has hired talent to replace the outgoing Katie Couric and her team principally from from within CBS News.
“Pat has a wealth of experience and has shown tremendous dedication to CBS News,” said Rhodes on Wednesday. “I know she will inspire the team that puts together Scott’s broadcast each day. We’re looking forward to making the ‘Evening News’ more competitive than ever.”
Humphreys’ promotion was announced internally at CBS on Weds.
